Union of Democratic Forces registered for participation in local elections

The centre-right Union of Democratic Forces (UDF) on September 4 submitted documents for registration to participate in Bulgaria’s local elections, thus becoming the tenth party registered for the local vote, scheduled for October 27.

The UDF leader Rumen Hristov expressed his confidence that the right wing parties GERB and UDF will continue to govern in the majority of municipalities. However, the party leader predicts a difficult election campaign because of the demands and ambitions of the left.

The leaders of the governing centre right party GERB and UDF on August 27 signed an Agreement of Partnership for the upcoming local elections.

The Agreement reads that the parties will have separate candidates for mayors but mutual support in the second electoral round is indispensable. The preelection unification aims at its becoming the first political force in the country with the greatest number of mayors and representatives to the municipal councils.
