US Senate confirmed Kenneth Merten as the next Ambassador to Bulgaria

Kenneth Merten has been confirmed by the US Senate to be the next US ambassador to Bulgaria, the US embassy said on December 14.

He is expected to take office in Sofia in the spring of 2023.

"Ambassador-designee Merten is a highly distinguished diplomat, with 35 years of experience in the Foreign Service, and his appointment reflects the strategic importance the United States places on our partnership with Bulgaria. We look forward to Ambassador-designee Merten's arrival in spring 2023!" the US Embassy said.
