The National Vaccination Headquarters (task force) proposes to move to the fourth phase of immunization against COVID-19, which includes senior citizens and people with chronic diseases, the Chairman of the task force, Prof. Krassimir Gigov, said on February 18 during the weekly briefing on the spread of the coronavirus in Bulgaria.

"Currently, the immunisation was implemented for people from the second and third phases of the vaccination plan. A large number of vaccines is expected, about 100,000 by the end of the month, and more the next month. By order of the Minister, relevant immunization points have been designated throughout the country, which allows to expand the range of vaccinations, and in this regard the National Vaccination Headquarters proposes to the Minister to move to the fourth phase, which includes over 65 years old people as well as those with chronic diseases," he explained.

Tomorrow, 57,600 doses of the Oxford vaccine will arrive in the country. By the end of this month, we expect a total of 240,000 doses of vaccines, said the executive director of the Medicines Agency, Bogdan Kirilov.

There are already preliminary expectations for the quantities of vaccines that will arrive in Bulgaria in March. "Our country expects over 500,000 doses, which will speed up the vaccination process," he assured.

No cases of the new South African and Brazilian variant of the coronavirus have been reported in Bulgaria.

Earlier in the week, Johnson & Johnson applied for approval, with the assessment expected to be completed by mid-March. "If the opinion is positive, the European Commission will be able to authorize the use of a fourth vaccine in the EU. This vaccine is a single dose, which will be a relief," said Kirilov.

The examination of the documents of two more vaccines continues.

As regards the Russian vaccine, consultations continue between the European Medicines Agency and the consulting company that communicates with the European institutions. No documents have been submitted yet for this vaccine, but they are expected in the coming weeks, said Bogdan Kirilov.
