WCC-Democratic Bulgaria parliamentray leader to the President: We need time to seek broad political support

Representatives of "We Continue the Change" - "Democratic Bulgaria" were received by President Rumen Radev on July 15 after they asked for a meeting with him to discuss the current political situation and the possibilities for resolving the political crisis.

“We Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria” coalition is to receive the second government-forming mandate.

"The heat outside coincided with the height of the hot political summer. This complex situation requires dialogue as well as timely operational solutions," President Rumen Radev said.

"The crux of the crisis today is that the same parties that came together to topple elected governments are now unable to come together to come up with an elected government. What have they achieved with this? These questions have no answer. Crises require non-standard solutions. We are proposing an unconventional solution that has at its heart the fight against corruption. We want to propose a package of laws and solutions to take that missing step to help clean up the political system of corrupt individuals. We are proposing a declaration that sets out these important steps that need to be taken and we will be seeking broad political support for it. That is why we need some time and we come to you with an appeal to discuss this opportunity," Nikolai Denkov, WCC-DB parliamentary group leader said.

On Saturday, the national council of WCC gathered for a meeting to decide whether to make an attempt to implement the second mandate together with the coalition partner from "Democratic Bulgaria" or to be the opposition in the 50th National Assembly.

The DB has repeatedly stated that it is ready to work towards forming a technical cabinet with a clearly defined time mandate and priorities.

President Rumen Radev is expected to hand over the second in succession mandate for forming a government to the second-largest parliamentary political force next week.

After 17 MPs were expelled from the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) parliamentary group last week, MRF went from being the second largest parliamentary group to the fourth. This resulted in WCC-DB now becoming the second-largest group in Parliament and is expected to be handed the second mandate to seek to form a government.
