Wearing masks in indoor public places in Sofia mandatory from today, August 4

From today, August 4, it is mandatory to wear masks indoors in Sofia because of COVID-19. The amended order issued by the regional health inspectorate in the capital city says the requirement will be in effect for 15 days, not for a whole month.

Masks become mandatory in indoor public places such as medical facilities, pharmacies, public institutions, retail outlets, public transport, railway and bus stations, Sofia airport and underground stations.

An exception is allowed for children up to 6 years of age.

In the common areas of shopping centres, masks are also optional, wearing masks is obligatory only in the shops themselves.

There is also no need for masks for indoor sports, for staff and customers in catering and entertainment establishments, participants in congress-conference events during a speech.

In indoor areas and workplaces, a mandatory distance of one and a half metres, regular disinfection and ventilation should be observed. Persons with symptoms of acute respiratory illnesses should not be allowed in the workroom. Where possible and at the discretion of employers, the possibility of working remotely, or working variable hours or shifts should be applied.

Enhanced morning filtering will take place in childcare settings to ensure that children with clinical signs of illness are not admitted.

There are restrictions on visiting patients in hospitals and hospices.
