The Directorate for Combatting Organised Crime and the prosecutor’s office disrupted a crime group plotting murders of magistrates and police officers. 10 people were detained in custody. Four are still wanted. The prosecutor's office said they detained emblematic figures from the underground criminal world.
The group has been primarily involved in drug trafficking. In recent months it has expanded its operations in Sofia. Its members forced minors to sell drugs.
More than 100 addresses were searched during the investigation. Authorities have found a list with names of prosecutors and police officers whom the group has targeted for murder or beatings. Two prosecutors from the Specialised Prosecutor's Office were on this list, and an employee from Sofia’s Directorate of the Ministry of Interiror was followed.
Ivan Geshev, Head of the Specialised Prosecutor's Office: The Specialised Prosecutor's Office, together with our Ministry of Interior services, will continue to work actively in this direction and will not allow absolutely no form of pressure, whatsoever, on employees the Ministry of the Interior and magistrates who fulfill their duties.
Mladen Marinov, Chief Secretary of the Ministry of Interior: I declare that we will not allow and will take absolutely all the measures provided for by the law to protect every employee, every magistrate, who gets included in such lists because of his conscientious and lawful work and against whom violent actions are planned.
