Bulgaria’s Chief Prosecutor Seeks to Lift the Immunity of Three MPs
Bulgaria’s Chief Prosecutor Sotir Tsatsarov filed a request to the National Assembly on 27th of April seeking for lifting the immunity of the MPs Vesselin Mareshki, Svetla Bachvarova-Piralkova and Delyan Dobrev.
The request for lifting the immunity from prosecution of Vesselin Mareshki is related to penal proceedings, initiated on the basis of an indictment by Varna District Prosecutor’s Office. Marehki has been accused of blackmailing two people by the use of threats.
Svetla Bachvarova - Piralkova is a defendant in a case in the Sofia City Court. It is about making unprofitable deals.
The third request by the Chief Prosecutor is to waive the immunity of Delyan Dobrev. The request is based on evidence gathered by the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office for deliberate mismanagement by Delyan Dobrev in his capacity of Minister of the Economy, Energy and Tourism, resulting in damage to the National Electricity Company (NEK EAD) to the amount of EUR 4,561,697 and EUR 27. The act was committed intentionally, according to the Prosecutor's Office.
