Fifth day of protests in Sofia
On July 13, an hour before midnight, the protest in the “Triangle of Power”, the square enclosed by the buildings of the Council of Ministers, the Presidency and one of the buildings of the National Assembly, is still ongoing.
The protest started outside the building of the Presidency has been going on for 8 hours. The protesters shouted “Resign”and “Mafia”.
The demand remain unchanged: resignation of the government and the chief prosecutor, Ivan Geshev.
The first demonstrators started gathering around 15:30 in front of the Presidency.
Three hours later, the demonstrators proceeded to the area outside the Council of Ministers and blocked the traffic in the area of Triangle of Power.
A smoke bomb was thrown in the centre of the protest and the demonstrators themselves put it out.
A school student appeared dressed in a dressing gown, according to him, he wanted to be noticed. The young man demanded change. “ I am a student and want to stay in Bulgaria. I do not want to go to Europe. I want my parents to live a normal life, he said. Some of the police officers with “anti-conflict” vests received flowers from the protesters.
And people's demands remain unchanged:
"The chief prosecutor should resign, because there is no procedure for his dismissal. He acts selectively, ruthlessly, demonstratively. I do not want to say the cliché“the system should be changed”, we just need all the people who have been in power to disappear," said a protester.
"They should resign if there is at least a minimum drop of dignity in them," he said.
Shortly before 8 pm, a 33-year-old man was detained by the police after breaking the rear window of a car in the area outside the Bulgarian National Bank.
