Ivan Geshev remains the only candidate for Chief Prosecutor. No other candidate was proposed on July 29 at the fourth and last sitting of the Supreme Judicial Council where a nomination could be made.
The Justice Minister did not nominate a candidate.
Geshev was proposed as a candidate for the post of chief prosecutor a week ago by all 11 members of the Prosecutor's College.
Danail Kirilov, Minister of Justice, explained that the nomination, which was supported by all members of the Prosecutor's college, reflects the will of the professional community.
Ivan Geshev, Deputy Chief Prosecutor: I will take you back to another procedure when 17 people nominated another future Chief Prosecutor who was alone and there were no such reactions. He was a successful Chief Prosecutor, at least for me. I'm talking about Mr. Velchev. I'm obviously supported by the entire professional community. This is tremendous confidence. I'm not running away from battles, nor running away from expressing my personal opinion. I'm not afraid what the consequences will be. It is important to tell the truth. You have to do what you need to do what you will.
I have been supported by the professional community. This is huge trust. I am not one to run from responsibility or trust, nor am I one to run from battles or from expressing personal opinion. I do not fear the consequences, it is important to speak the truth. Oner should do what is necessary, come what may, Geshev commented.
