New coronavirus outbreak in the village of Izgrev, Shoumen district
Seventeen people from the villages of Izgrev, North Bulgarian district of Shoumen, tested positive for coronavirus, including two for the past 24 hours, the mayor of the local municipality, Nehriban Ahmedova told BNT on June 11.
Five of the infected were admitted to hospital.
Twelve are isolated at home.
A total of 24 samples were taken yesterday, the results of which will be ready later today.
The mayor added that mass testing of the residents will be initiated. About 300 tests will be conducted over the next days.
"Today we have planned to take 100 samples, covering the workers, the staff of the kindergarten, the workers in the town hall in the village of Izgrev. We continue to look for the contact persons of the infected. Awareness is very important because we see that some of the people claim that testing was not necessary, they were not sick, but this is not the case because we already have an outbreak in the village and therefore we need to examine a larger number of the residents and see to what extent the infection has spread. Ahmedova called for the residents of Izgrev to show understanding, because “ all this is done to protect their lives and health,“ she said .
The district governor of Shoumen, Stefan Zhelev, pointed out that the decision for a possible 14-day quarantine in Izgrev is still pending.
"The order of the RHI director has not yet been agreed with the chief sanitary inspector, we expect this to happen at any moment in order to isolate the outbreak that is forming," he said.
"Most of the people who live in the village have a specific way of life, with many movements and travels, celebrations. We found that 7-8 days ago there were two celebrations, in two separate places, in houses to which people from the Razgrad village of Yasenovets came, where there are many cases of coronavirus. We think that the outbreak started from there. The population here has a very low awareness of medical measures, they tried self-medication and only when the situation worsened then they sought medical help ", added Zhelev.
