The owner of the wine-making plant "Vinprom Karnobat", Minyu Staikov, has been detained for 24 hours. The Specialised Prosecutor's Office is investigating his business for tax crimes and money laundering. Deputy Chief Prosecutor Ivan Geshev said charges is possible to be brought against Staikov before the end of the day.
The son of the mayor of Karnobat is also among the arrested.
The investigation into the companies of Minyu Staikov started in July, when an illegal cigarette factory was identified in Karnobat during an operation by the Specialised Prosecutor's Office and the directorate for combatting organized crime. No one was detained at the time, as only people in the factory were the workers, the TIR driver, used for loading the productions and the so called "split" that provided the route the TIR lorry was supposed to follow to reach the destination.
The investigators then began to look for the hidden owners of this factory and tried to find out what happened to the receipts. So they reached to information and probable evidence that this money was "laundered" through the companies Vinprom Karnobat, Sis Industries and Topaz Mel ", which are related to the businessman Minyu Staikov.
The building itself, where the cigarette factory was, was owned by the son of the mayor of Karnobat.
At present, about 10 people are detained.
