3D mapping show "The Greatness of Asenevtsi" brought together thousands in Veliko Tarnovo (VIDEO)
The 3D show "The Greatness of Asenevtsi" brought together thousands of people in Bulgaria’s old capital Veliko Tarnovo on September 23. After several years of hiatus, the show combining three-dimensional mapping was presented on the facade of the Art Gallery "Boris Denev".
It featured over 120 light devices placed on the space around Asenevtsi monument. The show tells the story of the rise of the Second Bulgarian Kingdom.
The three-dimensional spectacle is part of the programme for the celebrations of 114 years since the Independence, and the culmination this evening was a light show with drones and spectacular fireworks in the sky.

Asenevtsi Monument is one of the iconic landmarks of Veliko Tarnovo.
The Asenevtsi were three brothers named Asen, Petar and Kaloyan and Ivan Asen II was the son of Asen. Asen and Peter liberated Bulgaria from Byzantine rule. Kaloyan turned Bulgaria into one of the main powers in Eastern Europe and was the first and only Bulgarian ruler that defeated army of crusaders. Ivan Asen further expanded Bulgarian territory (extending it to three seas – the Black Sea, the Aegean and the Adriatic Sea) and power by diplomatic means and marriages.
The Asenevtsi ruled the medieval Bulgarian state, called in modern historiography the Second Bulgarian Kingdom, between 1187 and 1280.
During the rule of these four tsars, Bulgaria reached its zenith and Veliko Tarnovo became the capital of the Second Bulgarian Kingdom.
The Asenevtsi Monument was built in 1985 to commemorate 800 years since the uprising of the brothers Asen and Petar, which led to the liberation of Bulgaria from the Byzantine Empire.
