58 days to the snap elections: Will Gvozdeykov head the election headquarters?

GERB leader Boyko Borissov announced that they offer and will support Transport Minister Georgi Gvozdeykov to head the headquarters for the upcoming snap elections. Gvozdeykov agreed to keep his post of Minister of Transport in Dimitar Glavchev's caretaker cabinet. Because of this decision, he was expelled from “We Continue the Change” (WCC). Co-leader of WCC, Kiril Petkov, saw this move as a marketing ploy and accused GERB and the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) of trying to secure the vote-buying. Against this backdrop of scandals about the Ministry of Interior and the Customs Agency, Gallup sociologist Parvan Simeonov predicts that the results of their survey made for BNT, in which there is a 10% difference between GERB-UDF and WCC-DB, will undergo changes before the elections.

On the fourth day of the announcement of the date for the early parliamentary elections, a heated election campaign is underway on the sidelines of the Parliament. The leader of GERB challenged WCC-DB with a proposal that Transport Minister Georgi Gvozdeykov, who was expelled from WCC for remaining in the caretaker cabinet, should head the election headquarters.

“Everybody will hail the decision to put caretaker Minister of Transport, Gvozdeikov, at the lead of the election headquarters to make sure we have fair and democratic elections," Borissov said.

Why Gvozdeykov?

"Because he was the founder of WCC, because he was their flag, he was their symbol, he was undoubtedly an honest man, so everybody will be at ease. This is my opinion, that this is how it should be done. This is what I propose," said GERB leader Boyko Borissov.

WCC-DB described the GERB-UDF attacks as a smear operation and a media campaign against them.

"About Mr. Gvozdeykov, you know that he is already expelled from WCC and Borissov and Peevski (one of the two MRF leaders), have performed a clever marketing trick by putting the name of Transport Minister Georgi Gvozdeikov at the lead of logistics for the upcoming general elections so they can carry out their plan for vote buying in absolutely full coordination: from the Minister of Interior to the Interior Ministry Secretary General, and to pull the wool over the eyes of the people through Gvozdeykov, and completely keep control in their own hands, and vote buying will be unprecedented during these elections," said Kiril Petkov of WCC-DB.

In the midst of the scandals, pollsters say these scandals could affect the results that have been reported to this point. The results of the poll made especially for BNT by Gallup International may also undergo changes as the elections approach. In it GERB-UDF has a 10% lead over WCC-DB, but the poll was made while the regular cabinet was still working.

The elections are exactly 58 days away.
