Acting Prosecutor General asked for and received the resignation of Deputy District Prosecutor of Stara Zagora
Acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov on August 1 asked for and received the resignation of Georgi Videv - Deputy District Prosecutor of Stara Zagora.
It was prosecutor Videv who appeared at the trial in the District Court, where he pleaded for a lighter measure for Georgi Nikolaev, who slashed 18-year-old woman with a knife and inflicted wounds that required 400 stitches.
A team of prosecutors from the Supreme Prosecutor's Office will be checking Videv's work, as well as that of the district prosecutor, Desislava Parvanova, who is the first supervising prosecutor in the investigation of the disfigured 18-year-old girl.
Unprecedented cruelty: Man disfigured 18-year-old girl with a carpet knife, released on bail
Sarafov expects the leadership of the District Prosecutor's Office in Stara Zagora to create the organisation and conditions for a full and thorough investigation of the case, as well as for its conclusion in a short time in order to ensure justice. At present, two pre-trial proceedings are pending against the accused - for inflicting moderate bodily harm and for threatening to kill.
If necessary, in the course of the investigation, prosecutors from the Supreme Cassation Prosecutor’s Office are ready to provide immediate methodological assistance for the timely completion of the investigation with a view to filing an indictment against the perpetrator of serious criminal acts, taking into account the aggravating circumstances of guilt - the previous penalties imposed on the accused, the gravity and social danger of the offence.
