BNT celebrates 64th birthday
On November 7, BNT marks 64th birthday.
On November 7, 1959 at 9:45 a.m., the first live television broadcast in the country began with the announcer's words "Attention, we are on air". The event which was broadcast live was the October Revolution Day rally from 9 September Square (today Alexander Battenberg Square) in Sofia.
The event was filmed by 3 cameras located on the balcony of the National Art Gallery, on the Mausoleum of Georgi Dimitrov and on the corner of Vassil Levski and Tsar Osvoboditel streets.
The live broadcast was directed by Angel Valchanov and Lidiya Ishimbaeva. It was aired on Channel 7.
The official opening of the Bulgarian TV service was on 26 December of the same year.
On the first day of its regular broadcast of programmes, the Bulgarian National Television started with the live airing of the award ceremony for the participants in the construction of the TV tower in Sofia, a festive concert and a film.
