Bulgaria's PM Denkov and UK's former PM Blair discussed reform in the special services

UK’s former Prime Minister, Tony Blair, and his Institute for Global Change will be advocates for Bulgarian priorities and will work together to reform the special services. This was agreed in Davos by the former British Prime Minister and Bulgaria’s Prime Minister, Acad. Nikolay Denkov, the press office of the Council of Ministers said on January 17.

Fight against corruption

The institute will advise Bulgaria in the fight against corruption and the application of artificial intelligence.

"It turned out that he is very active in Ukraine, looking for opportunities to help the reforms in the country there. We talked about our initiatives with Greece, with Romania, to be able to develop the region and the transport corridors to Moldova and Ukraine, so we saw that there are opportunities for cooperation in this area," the Prime Minister explained in a video statement from Davos.

Reform in the services

According to Denkov, the Bulgarian government and the Institute for Global Change will also work together on reforming the services in Bulgaria.

"Moreover, there is specific experience in its organisation in terms of fighting corruption in different countries, in terms of reforming the services, and this was one of the topics we agreed to work together on, because they are, on the one hand, a reputable organisation, on the other hand, they can appear as an independent, expert assessment of what is happening in Bulgaria," the Bulgarian PM explained.

Threats posed by artificial intelligence

The heads of government met with the UN, WHO and IMF to discuss the threats posed by the development of artificial intelligence.

"It was interesting to see that each of them, without exception, started by saying that, yes, it is difficult, but each of these challenges also presents opportunities. And they presented several of the opportunities that we could take advantage of as well. For example, the threats from artificial intelligence in terms of jobs were discussed not in the context that this is a global threat, but that this is an opportunity that we need to make sure is not just exploited by rich countries, but that we find an opportunity to get these advances to all people as quickly as possible, both in poorer countries and in people who have less access to these technologies," the Prime Minister explained.

Blair and Denkov have also discussed how international systems need to be strengthened so that the drive and possibility of restoring peace returns.
