Bulgaria supported the initiative for the first Peace Summit in Ukraine
Bulgaria supports the initiative of Switzerland and Ukraine to convene the first Peace Summit in Ukraine. On this occasion, caretaker Prime Minister, Dimitar Glavchev, met with Ambassador of Ukraine, Olesya Ilashchuk, and Ambassador of the Swiss Confederation, Raymund Furrer, on May 17.
The forum, which will be held on 15 and 16 June in Switzerland, should define a clear roadmap based on the principles of President Volodymyr Zelensky's "Formula for Peace" initiative, the UN Charter and international law. President Zelensky's initiative is a conceptual plan aimed at ending the war in Ukraine and achieving a comprehensive and lasting peace based on preserving Ukraine's territorial integrity. Bulgaria participates in 4 of the initiative's relevant working groups - on "Food Security", "Energy Security" and "Restorative Justice", and as co-chair on "Environmental Security", together with Germany and Finland.
During the meeting, caretaker Prime Minister, Dimitar Glavchev, was adamant that Bulgaria will continue to support Ukraine in its just cause to defend its right to freedom and independence and to choose its own security guarantees. Bulgaria remains fully committed to the strong and united response of NATO, the European Union and the international democratic community to Russian military aggression against Ukraine. Political contacts between Bulgaria and Ukraine are active and take place both bilaterally and in various international formats.
