Bulgarian road hauliers said on 19th of June thay are ready for protests in Brussels if the European Parliament adopts the ‘Macron Mobility Package’, which provides for heavy transport regulations. Despite the agreement reached with the European Commission regarding the controversial texts, the European Parliament refused to allow them for discussion.
12,500 are licensed international transport companies, with nearly 68,000 freight vehicles which will be directly affected by the new Brussels regulations.
On June 4, the European Transport Commission agreed to withdraw the controversial texts, requiring drivers every three weeks to go home for a holiday and a ban on sleeping in the cabs of the lorries. However, the European Parliament has refused to accept the new proposals for discussion.
Representatives of the industry threatened to protest if the Bulgarian proposal is not discussed in the European Parliament.
Now the 17 MEPs from Bulgaria need to seek the support of another 60 colleagues in order to bring the Bulgarian version of the transport law into the European Parliament. The decisive vote will be between 2 and 3 July.
