Bulgarian National Television (BNT) launches blood donation campaign

The Bulgarian National Television (BNT) initiated a national blood donation campaign together with the National Centre for Blood Transfusion Haematology, under the patronage of the Ministry of Health.

Prompted by the signals and requests by members of the public for TV coverages in connection with the shortage of blood and blood products in Bulgaria, we, as a public service broadcaster, want to contribute and support blood donation, as the highest form of nobility, an expression of solidarity and a socially significant cause that saves lives.

The main objective of the campaign is to increase the blood donation awareness: to explain why it is important to donate blood, to promote voluntary and non-remunerated blood donation, as well as to encourage active participation and a positive attitude towards the act of blood donation.

The campaign will be featured in programmes of the News and Current Affairs Directorate of BNT, including “Bulgaria in 60 Minutes”, “The Day Begins” and others.

BNT presenter, Mariana Vekilska, and Iliana Parvanova from the “Fireflies for Life” Foundation were in the studio of BNT programme "The Day Begins" on March 5 to explain more details about how the campaign will be implemented and where it will take place.

The start date is set for 5 March in Varna and the final date is 28 April in Sofia with a mobile blood donation point in the doctor's office in the BNT building at 29 "San Stefano” street, where anyone willing, including BNT employees, can donate blood within preliminary specified time frames.
