The invention of the scientists from the institute of Mechanics of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) would be helpful to over 250 couples in Bulgaria with fertility problems. It is in the stage of being finalized.
“Our aim is to automate the cytoplasmic sperm injection into the egg. So far, embryologists have used mechanical procedures, performed through joystick-controlled devices”, explained associate professor Tihomir Tyankov from the Institute of Mechanics of BAS.
The project for robotic automation of IVF processes has been implemented thanks to funding under the European programme “Competitiveness”.
“The willingness to discover something new, to introduce things that have not been known so far - this is something really remarkable and achieving such aim brings exceptional satisfaction”, says Assen Shulev from the Institute of Mechanics of BSA.
Within a month, the robotic automated system designed to carry out fertilization with high precision, is expected to start working in real life conditions.
