Bulgaria’s energy regulator raises gas price by 14% for May

The Energy and Water Regulatory Commission has set the new natural gas price for May. It is almost 14% higher or 162.17 BGN/MWh (excluding access, transmission, excise and VAT prices). According to the regulator's estimates, due to the end of the heating season, the price change will have a minimal impact on the bills of household consumers.

Kiril Petkov: Bulgaria to receive full volumes of gas agreed with Azerbaijan from 1 July

Today, May 13, in the early afternoon, the state-owned company “Bulgargaz” submitted its forecast and the EWRC met in a closed sitting.

A few days ago, Bulgargaz asked for a price increase of 30% due to the need to import alternative supplies. This was not accepted by the energy regulator EWRC and so the decision to adopt a new gas price was delayed by 13 days. Bulgargaz was also inspected by the Ministry of Energy, but no violations were found.

According to the latest calculations of the energy regulator, the reason for reducing the original estimate is that the new price includes the quantities of blue fuel we receive from Azerbaijan.

The EWRC reminded that Bulgargaz' forecast for June so far foresees a price of BGN 140 per MWh, which is comparable to that in April. The main reason will be the agreed deliveries of US liquefied natural gas during the month. The official application of the public gas supplier is expected to be submitted next week.
