Cabinet identifies more than 15 measures against aggression and violence

We have identified more than 15 measures against aggression and violence, PM Acad. Nikolai Denkov said at a press conference at the Council of Ministers after a meeting with representatives of four ministries on August 10.

"Almost all measures are at the level of the Council of Ministers and ministries, requiring coordination between institutions. There are also those related to amending legislation," the prime minister explained.

"In recent days and weeks, reports of very serious cases of violence have appeared in the media. This has been a hidden epidemic in recent years. Encouraged by the support they have received from the institutions, many people have dared to tell about their problems," Prime Minister Denkov added.

The Prime Minister discussed the measures with representatives of the Ministries of the Interior, Labour and Social Policy, Justice and Education and Science.

Denkov explained that the meeting reviewed all available information, on the basis of which measures were formulated, aimed at both preventing violence and helping its victims. The Prime Minister gave the example of the discussed possibility to refine the texts in the legislation related to early marriages among underage children.

"This is a big problem and it is also a form of violence that needs to be addressed," Denkov said.

The prime minister assured that all the measures identified at the level of the Council of Ministers and individual ministries would be moved forward within a month.

"Our commitment is to tell you in a month's time what has already been put into action," the prime minister said.
