Central Bank's Governor to Parliament: Bulgaria is seriously delayed in implementing the euro adoption plan
Bulgaria is already seriously delayed in implementing the plan for the adoption of the euro in Bulgaria by January 1, 2024, BNB Governor Dimitar Radev said on October 27. during hearing in plenary chamber.
"Let me start like this - the real debate today is for or against the euro. The euro as a symbol of the European project and our commitment. Let me say right away that the eurozone issue is political, not expert, and the answer should be up to the National Assembly," Radev said.
He also stated his personal opinion - "The question is whether Bulgaria should remain in the deep periphery of Europe or an effort should be made to accelerate the process of joining the euro zone. There is already a serious delay".
The hearing of the governor of Bulgaria’s central bank was at the initiative of "BSP for Bulgaria".
"The purpose of today's hearing is to listen to this independent body because they have no political bias, they are not politically bound and they can actually tell us what will happen if we delay decisions on this topic," said Kornelia Ninova, leader of the left-wing Bulgarian Socialist Party party.
