Chief State Health Inspector: Smell and taste loss not a common symptom of the new Omicron variant
The most recent Covid-19 Omicron variant does not so much cause loss of smell and taste. Typical symptoms include severe headache, cough, fever and fatigue, Bulgaria’s Chief State Health Inspector, Assoc. Prof. Angel Kunchev, told BNT on October 4. According to him, the currently circulating variants of COVID-19 are unpleasant and spread quickly, but still do not lead to total pressure on the health system.
In his words, a lot depends on the level of immunity and how the body will react to COVID-19, but the risks should not be underestimated.
This characteristic signs of the classic variants of loss of sense of smell is absent, almost absent, instead - headache, very severe fatigue, temperature, although not always in high values and a very unpleasant cough, which at the beginning starts as an irritation in the throat, then becomes persistent, at certain stage may cause shortness of breath," Kunchev explained.
