Corruption in Bulgaria at its highest level in the past two decades, says CSD
Corruption in Bulgaria is at its highest level in two decades. This is what the Center for the Study of Democracy and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation claim in a study.
The study highlights that in 2023, administrative corruption once again peaked, with 35% of the public reporting having been asked for a bribe and 30% having been involved in corruption transactions at least on some occasions in the preceding year – figures matched only by the corruption rates in 1999 and 2014.
The CSD's latest analysis, entitled “The State of Capture in Bulgaria: Тhe Elusive Quest for Anti-Corruption Results” provides a comparative perspective on corruption levels in Bulgaria over the past 25 years, with a focus on growing global and national strategic corruption and dysfunctional regulatory and specialised anti-corruption institutions.
