Driving ban for heavy goods vehicles over 20 tonnes in 3 districts in Bulgaria during hot weather

Traffic of heavy goods vehicles, weighing more than 20 tonnes, will be restricted on certain sections of the republican road network in the districts of Targovishte and Shumen until 31 August, from 13.00 to 21.00, when temperatures are above 35 degrees per Celsius, the Road Infrastructure Agency said on July 24.

The temporary driving ban is necessary in order to minimise the risks of road deformations. The ban does not apply to heavy goods vehicles transporting perishable food, temperature-controlled cargo, live animals and hazardous goods.

During the restriction, HGVs over 20 tonnes will wait off the roadway in suitable places without obstructing other road users, the Road Agency added.

Drivers should drive cautiously and strictly observe the traffic signs.

The directors of the road departments are monitoring the weather forecasts and in case of high temperatures, according to the condition of the rod surfaces, they will take action to restrict the movement of vehicles weighing more than 20 tonnes on certain road sections in the specific area.

On 21 July, the Road Infrastructure Agency warned that until the end of July, restrictions on trucks weighing up to 20 tonnes, at high temperatures, will also be introduced in Kardzhali district, Southern Bulgaria.
