EC Representation in Bulgaria launches an information campaign on the adoption of the euro
As of today, September 4, 2023, the European Commission Representation in Bulgaria is launching an information campaign on the adoption of the euro. The campaign aims to answer the question how the transition to the single currency will take place and what will happen with our money, Boyko Blagoev, acting head of the EC Representation in Bulgaria, told BNT.
BNT is a media partner of the campaign and will broadcast 10 animated videos - they explain the main issues that worry people.
"Back in 2007, when Bulgaria joined the EU, it declared its readiness to apply for the euro area and has been working towards this over the years. We see myths and misinformation about the euro, and the aim of our campaign is to combat these false statements."
The Commission is working closely with the Bulgarian institutions. Blagoev urged Bulgarian citizens to seek information from reliable sources.
"Bulgarian public is divided in its opinion on the euro. We hope that with these practical facts we will spark debates and more information will be available."
Boyko Blagoev commented that there will not be a drastic price hike in Bulgaria. He gave the example of Croatia, where, in his words, price increases have occurred in isolated cases and the authorities have quickly tackled inflation.
The European Commission's main channel in Bulgaria is their Facebook page, where the information videos will appear. Discussions will be held there and answers to members of the public’s questions, Blagoev said.
