Fire rages in a mixed forest near the village of Varbina, Southern Bulgaria
Wildfire is burning across 10 to 20 decares of mixed forest and meadows in the area of the village of Varbina in Madan municipality, Southern Bulgaria, Commissioner Simeon Tservulanov, Director of the Regional Directorate "Fire Safety and Population Protection" – Smolyan said on September 11.
The alert about the fire was submitted around 13:30. The fire started from the meadows above the complex at Varbinski Bridge and reached the road below the village of Tsirka. The fire has already been contained and is being extinguished along the front and in the interior, Commissioner Tservulanov explained. The fire is expected to be extinguished by this evening.
Three fire fighting teams from Madan and Banite are on site, forestry officials from Madan and Zlatograd are also helping in the extinguishing. The mayor of Varbina village has organised volunteers. The causes of the fire are being clarified.
