Heroin worth over 1,000,000 BGN found by customs officers at Kapitan Andreevo border crossing
Over 6 kg of heroin was found in a car by customs officers at Kapitán Andreevo checkup point. The case is from 26 May.
The car was driven by a 24-year-old woman and a 41-year-old man was travelling in it - both Bulgarian citizens.
The vehicle was selected for a thorough customs inspection by a team of the Anti-Drug Trafficking Department. After dismantling the rear tires of the vehicle, in the factory cavities of the sills, the customs officers found a total of 24 packages containing a beige powdery substance.
In a field drug test, the substance reacted to heroin. The total gross weight of the seized drug was 6,120 kg, valued at BGN 1,028,160, which was assessed for the purposes of the court proceedings.
Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated by an investigating customs inspector under the supervision of the Haskovo District Prosecutor's Office.
The man is charged with an offence under Article 242, paragraph 4, item 1 in conjunction with paragraph 2, item 1 of the Criminal Code.
The check is part of the general actions against smuggling and was conducted with the participation of officials of the Customs Agency, DG "Fight against Organized Crime", DG "Border Police" and the National Revenue Agency.
