Judge Daniela Taleva is the first magistrate to investigate the Prosecutor General
Judge Daniela Taleva from Sofia City Court is the first magistrate who will investigate the Prosecutor General. She was chosen from a total of 22 magistrates who agreed to be included in the list under the new mechanism for investigating the Prosecutor General and his deputies, if there is evidence they have committed a crime.
Henceforth, the prosecutors’ college of the Supreme Judicial Council is to appoint Judge Taleva as prosecutor and she, in turn, has the right to decide whether to open pre-trial proceedings in the case or close the file.
The first case was filed on June 7 against the then Deputy Prosecutor General and current Acting Prosecutor General, Borislav Sarafov. It is related to alleged property deals of Sarafov’s family.
"There are 47 alerts to date. A file is being opened on each of the signals. With regard to those files that contain signals against the former Prosecutor General, Ivan Geshev, and against his predecessor, Sotir Tsatsarov, by my order, they will be sent for consideration under the general procedure by the State Public Prosecutor's Office," said Lada Paunova, deputy chair of the Supreme Court of Cassation.
The alerts against former Prosecutor General, Ivan Geshev, have been sent to the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office as he is no longer in the system and can be investigated under the general law.
