Kozloduy NPP signed an agreement for nuclear fuel supply
After signing a contract with Westinghouse earlier this month, Bulgaria’s Kozloduy nuclear power plant (NPP) on December 29 also signed an agreement with Framatom for the supply of nuclear fuel.
Following the agreement with Westinghouse Electric for the supply of fresh nuclear fuel for Unit 5, the new document to be signed takes the next practical step to ensure diversification of fuel supplies to the plant's nuclear power units.
"We have a contract with the Russians. At the moment they are experiencing both geopolitical and purely logistical constraints with the ability to supply. So it is extremely important for us to have reliable supplies. Because without the NPP, the Bulgarian energy sector will not be able to meet domestic needs. Not to mention exports, which provide a large part of the gross domestic product. We are currently, with the two companies long-term contracts, achieving all the requirements and becoming one of the most secure power plants," said Rosen Hristov, caretaker energy minister.
