Kozloduy NPP Unit 6 shut down for planned repairs
On June 15, 2024, Kozloduy NPP Unit 6 will be shut down for planned preventive maintenance due to faults detected in the process of operation of the oil system of the 24/400kV unit transformer (the non-nuclear part of the unit), as well as indications of heat carrier leakage in the steam generator.
The amount of leakage is subject to continuous monitoring and is currently below the existing limits. The shutdown was coordinated with the Electricity System Operator, taking into account the load on the national power system and the availability of sufficient generating capacity in the country.
Continuous monitoring of the systems and equipment of Unit 6 shows that the limits set in the technological regulation have not been reached. There has been no change in the radiation situation in the working areas and on the Kozloduy NPP site. The decision to shut down was taken conservatively in order to ensure the necessary high safety of the unit and a reliable supply of electricity during the summer period.
Once the planned activities are completed, unit 6 will be connected to the country's power system. Unit 5, after completion of the scheduled annual maintenance, was connected to the power system on 10 June 2024 and is operating according to the production schedule after reaching 100% capacity.
