Man arrested over Facebook threat to kill a minister from the current cabinet
A 39-year-old man has been arrested for threatening to kill a minister of the current government, Sofia District Prosecutor's Office said on July 18.
On July 4 in Sofia, the accused G.D. threatened to kill a minister by sending him a threatening message on his personal account in a social media network.
According to BNT sources. the threatened person was Todor Tagarev - Minister of Defence.
A pre-trial proceeding has been opened in the case for a crime under Art. 144, par. 3 in par. 1 of the Criminal Code. In the course of the investigation, the investigating officers have established that the account in the social network from which the threat was sent was created and used by the accused G.D.
By a decree of a supervising prosecutor, the accused was detained for up to 72 hours.
A request is to be submitted to the court for consideration of a remand in custody.
In June last year, Lyubomir Yakov, who threatened the speaker of the 46th National Assembly Iva Miteva, was sentenced to 7 months and 15 days in prison. The man pleaded guilty. On October 24, 2021, Yakov sent two email messages to the Ministry of Justice in which he wrote that he had a gun and would kill the Speaker of the Parliament. A day later, again in the evening around 10 p.m., the man sent another email in which he wrote that he would kill former Prime Minister Boyko Borissov.
