The specialized criminal court on December 12 ruled to release Nikolai Dimitrov, Mayor of Nessebar municipality and municipal councilor Petar Todorov from custody. Nikolai Dimitrov is with a bail measure, to the amount of BGN 40,000. The municipal councilor Petar Todorov was also released on bail of BGN 20,000.
The decision is not final and can be appealed or protested before the Court of Appeals within three days, with a hearing scheduled for December 19.
The Specialized Prosecutor's Office told BNT that they will protest today's ruling at the higher instance.
If the change of measure is confirmed by the appellate judges, then the two will be released.
Dimitrov was arrested before the October 27 local elections in Nessebar. He won in the first round of the elections with nearly 60% of the vote. Standing as an independent, he won the majority of the votes, defeating the candidate of GERB party, who got just less than 36%, and a candidate from a local party, who got just less than 2%
