Medical teams start training in preparation to work on the air ambulances
On May 15, 50 doctors and medical specialists start their training for providing emergency medical assistance by air, the press service of the Ministry of Health said on May 12. This is the first group to undergo the training course. It will be held at the training base of the Military Medical Academy.
Candidates for the air medical services are doctors, specialist doctors, nurses, midwives, paramedics and one physician's assistant, who are from 17 hospitals, four centres and one emergency medical aid centre from across the country. Doctors and medical specialists from Sofia, Burgas, Gotse Delchev, Montana, Panagyurishte, Pleven, Razgrad, Sandanski and Shumen have applied for the training.
A second group is to be formed and will be involved in the training for air ambulance crews.
On Monday, the Centre for Emergency Medical Aid by Air will be established. The regulations for its operation are being drafted and are to be published on the website of the Ministry of Health for public discussion.
Sites for emergency medical helicopter will be available in most cities of the country.
The first ambulance helicopters are expected to be in Bulgaria in June or July this year. The helicopters will be equipped with the necessary apparatus. By the end of 2026, it is foreseen that the country will have six ambulance helicopters for emergency medical assistance.
