National Investigation Service no longer part of the Prosecutor's Office
Bulgaria's Parliament on June 2 passed conclusively amendments to the Judicial System Act, according to which the National Investigation Service (NIS) will no longer be part of the Prosecutor’s office.
The amendments separating the investigation service from the Prosecutor’s office were proposed as a separate bill. However, today in the chamber, it was decided to consider them as proposals between the first and second readings of the government's draft amendments to the Judicial System Act.
The Parliament adopted that the National Investigative Service and the investigative departments of the district prosecutors' offices be separated from the state prosecution. The National Investigative Service becomes independent, and district investigative services will be established in the district cities.
