National Revenue Agency took down 2,500 websites involved in unauthorised gambling activities
Since the beginning of the year, the National Revenue agency (NRA) has stopped more than 2,500 gambling websites operated by entities without an active gambling licence under the Gambling Act. In the last month alone, the executive director of the revenue agency has issued nearly 640 decisions to suspend the activities of online betting platforms operating in the country without the required permits.
Once the decision is published on the NRA's website, the sites mentioned have 3 days to cease their activities. The NRA shall refer the matter to court if after this period the unregulated online platforms are available in Bulgaria and bets can be placed through them by users in the country. The magistrates in turn issue an order to the internet service providers in the country to terminate access to the sites and their subdomains.
In case a user comes across an unregulated online betting platform, they can report it to the revenue agency at illegal_gambling@nra.bg.
The report should include the website and the user’s ISP. More information on the risks of illegal sites can be found in the Responsible Gambling section of the NRA's website and social networks Facebook and X, as well as on the NRA's YouTube channel.
