National statistics: Monthly inflation fell by 0.4%, annual inflation stands at 8.7%

Monthly inflation for June was -0.4% and annual inflation was 8.7%, National Statistical Institute said on July 17. Inflation is measured by consumer price indices.

In June 2023, the largest price decreases were in the groups: entertainment and culture (-3.1%), food and non-alcoholic beverages (-1.0%), housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (-0.6%) and clothing and footwear (-0.6%). The largest increases in prices were recorded in the following groups: restaurants and hotels services (+1.6%), communications (+1.1%) and healthcare (+0.9%).

Prices of goods and services in the education group remained unchanged.

Prices of a number of food products decreased. Prices of green beans, courgettes, aubergines and cucumbers fell by over 17%, cabbage and pepper by over 15%. The price of potatoes fell by 13.7% and tomatoes by just over 10%.

Oil price fell by 5.8%, garlic by 5.1%, onions by 4.3%, butter by 4.0% and eggs by 3.6%. Dairy products saw less decrease in prices, with yellow cheese down by 2.9%, white cheese down by 2.2% and yogurt down by 1.8%.

Carrots and red beetroot prices rose by over 13%, while apples increased by over 9%. Prices of citrus and southern fruits rose by 3%, pork meat by 2.7%, mushrooms by 1.7%. There was also a 1.2% jump in prices for vinegar and whole milk.
