The NATO Parliamentary Assembly adopted a declaration of support for Ukraine until victory. Nearly 400 parliamentarians from the 32 NATO member states and 25 partner countries and parliamentary organisations participated in the forum, which is being held in Sofia.

In the Ukraine declaration, delegates introduced an amendment to support Ukraine in its internationally justified right to defend itself by lifting certain restrictions on the use of NATO and partner-provided weapons and the ability to attack legitimate targets on Russian territory.

The Assembly also recommended the creation of a Centre for Democratic Resilience at NATO Headquarters in Brussels to safeguard the Alliance's core democratic values by combating disinformation.

NATO is the most successful alliance in history because it can change and adapt, said Alliance Secretary General, Jens Stoltenberg, at the opening of the plenary today, May 27. We should develop new defence plans and ensure that we have the necessary forces, greater combat readiness and new capabilities, to deter, he said. According to the NATO Secretary General, the good news is that Europe is doing this.

Ukraine will be weaker if we continue to support the country with half-measures, NATO Parliamentary Assembly President, Michal Scherba, said. Ukraine's place is in NATO, at the NATO Summit in Washington we should say it clearly that Ukraine's path towards joining the alliance is irreversible, Michal Scherba said.

Bulgaria remains firmly committed to supporting Ukraine for as long as necessary, caretaker Prime Minister, Dimitar Glavchev, said. NATO remains a guarantor of Bulgaria's security and prosperity, the PM said.

Ukraine defends not only itself, Ukraine defends Europe and our values, our principles, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Rositsa Kirova said. She also highlighted the need for increased focus on the Black Sea region and the Western Balkans.

Our Europe, a continent marked over the centuries more by war and conflict than peaceful, coexistence, is now largely united by a single defence alliance and the European Union. Never before have so many European countries cooperated so closely and multilaterally, said Kerstin Lundgren, Third Deputy Speaker of the Swedish Parliament.

Full NATO membership is Ukraine's ultimate goal, Ukrainian Defence Minister, Rustem Umerov, said in a video address.
