Nikolay Denkov: We need to see the video recordings from the elections, according to WCC-DB analysis, 10% of the vote was controlled
According to a preliminary analysis of "We Continue the Change" - "Democratic Bulgaria", they expected about 10% of the vote in the early parliamentary elections on October 27 to be controlled, Nikolay Denkov told journalists in connection with President Rumen Radev's call on the Ministry of Interior and the caretaker government to give convincing answers to the questions related to vote buying.
"I fully agree because yesterday I was in Shumen and I heard some shocking stories about what happened. I'm not just talking about vote buying, I'm talking about a controlled vote, about pressure on mayors, buying and buying off polling station election commissions. These are things that may have happened before, but not on this scale. At the moment we are making an assessment of the extent of this vote buying," Denkov said.
According to him, another question is what can be proven at the moment.
"The Ministry of Interior should investigate, there should be pre-trial proceedings and convictions," he added.
Peevski joined President's call: Ministry of Interior to inform about election violations
Regarding a possible annulment of the elections, Denkov said that only the Constitutional Court has the authority to do so, and only if there are enough grounds to be able to do so. He added that "the Ministry of the Interior is the investigating body, so we have to wait and see what they will uncover".
"We have to see what they can uncover, what can come out of the relevant video surveillance. You have seen this infamous recording, we are sure that this is not the only case, so we need to look at these videos as well to see if there is direct evidence," Denkov added.
"We cannot turn a blind eye - this is not just scandalous, it is also dangerous for democracy in Bulgaria. Elections are at the core of democracy, and without fair elections, there is no democracy," he noted.
