Opera in the kindergarten - musicians introduce children to classical music

Does opera have a place in the kindergarten? The answer to this question is sought by the project "On the Wings of Song". Pianist Maria Rousseva and opera singer Nona Krustnikova have been surprised by the genuine children's reactions to their encounter with classical music for almost a month now. Sofia Municipality and the Culture Programme are behind their idea.

More than one and two scientific studies have proved the beneficial power of classical music for children's development. But to be convinced of these conclusions, it is best to see the how the power of music works in real envoronment. This is what Nona Krustnikova and Maria Rousseva decided to do. They chose to perform Schubert's songs in kindergartens in Sofia.

"Because it's very important that every child at this age has access to this, not to be dependent either on financial possibilities or on the cultural environment in which they grow up. And very often the children's reactions are actually very unexpected by the teachers themselves, which makes me think that sometimes children who would not have had the opportunity to experience this thing are very open to it," says Maria Rousseva.

"This is an awakening activity that many of us should develop, especially people who have a claim to a professionally high level, because it is the professionally high level that should reach the children. And they should meet it at an early age and hopefully fall in love with classical music," announced Nona Krustnikova.

In the form of a game, with pleasant and accessible conversation, children get quickly carried away by classical music. And they accept it without the prejudices of adults who find it complicated, incomprehensible and outdated.
