Parliament established an ad hoc committee on the case of Nexo crypto currency trading platform
The Parliament on January 18 unanimously decided to establish an ad hoc committee of inquiry to explore all the facts and circumstances related to the activities of the crypto currency trading company Nexo for carrying out potential illegal activities involving structures financing terrorism and organised crime, as well as the financing of political parties in Bulgaria.
15 employees of Nexo crypto firm made donations to “Yes Bulgaria” party
Five employees of investigated Nexo crypto lender donated BGN 100,000 to “Democratic Bulgaria”
GERB submitted the request because of the financing of “Democratic Bulgaria” by Nexo employees. A question was raised again as regards how the financing of parties in Bulgaria is regulated.
Desislava Atanasova, chairwoman of the GERB-UDF parliamentary group, said: "Donors have personally made donations to your part of the parliamentary group and your movement, but the bigger and main question here is whether Bulgaria will once again be in the context of the news that links us to fraud, to schemes, whether they link us to money laundering, whether they link us to terrorism."
Hristo Ivanov, co-chairman of “Democratic Bulgaria” (DB), said: "We have nothing to hide, we are ready to give full transparency and we have always worked openly on what funding we have received, how and why."
Miroslav Ivanov, "We Continue the Change" group, said: You know which bodies and institutions in this country have the right to investigate. Let them do their job."
Yordan Tsonev, MRF parliamentary group: "This huge scandal cannot be suppressed. Who knows whom is a secondary issue. Another issue is who is behind the support of this project. I say it is the “Capital” circle".
Tsoncho Ganev, deputy chairman of "Vazrazhdane" group said: "I make the opposite proposal because it is extremely important for the Bulgarian society to once again see how DB is sponsored by companies that circumvent the sanctions against the Russian Federation, so it is indirectly funded by Russian money."
