PM asks for replacement of MoI Secretary General after meeting with security services

Prime Minister, Nikolay Denkov, asked Minister of Interior, Kalin Stoyanov, to prepare a report with a request to replace the Ministry of Interior’s Secretary General. This became clear after the joint meeting of the Ministry of Interior and the security services convened by the Prime Minister on August 18.

"There is also an internal problem in the Ministry of Interior. It is related to the responsibility of the Secretary General. In practice, the minister does not work with him because he has no trust," Denkov said.

According to the Prime Minister, there is currently no established link between the assassination of Alexey Petrov and other high-profile murders in the country.

"Regarding the murder of Alexey Petrov, there are different hypotheses and lines in connection with his positions in SANS, business interests. Different motives are being investigated. Including revenge. He went without security guards to various places, and did not feel threatened. We are working on specific traces that cannot be presented publicly."

The Ministry of Interior, the security services and the Prosecutor's office should speed up the exchange of information, the Prime Minister said, calling for a coordination mechanism to be set up to exchange information.

Minister Stoyanov should liaise with the Prosecutor’s office so that in this agreement should include the fight against corruption in addition to the anti-drug trafficking. The anti-corruption commission and the State Agency for National Security (SANS) should also be involved. All the signals that would hinder the detection of crimes, the so-called umbrellas, will be reviewed. We activate in full the work of the services of preliminary information on such serious crimes, in order to prevent crimes from happening.

At the moment we cannot talk about a gangster war or a return of the “Mutri” (thugs) years (referring to the murky post-Socialist underworld of the 1990s when the “mutri” were involved in activities of varying degrees of unlawfulness), said Minister of Interior, Kalin Stoyanov.

PM Nikolay Denkov categorically denied the allegations that Alexey Petrov was behind the formation of the current government.
