PM Denkov: Strengthening military capacity is a guarantee for peace

Peace is achieved when any aggressor knows that if they attack, they will be punished. In order for our country to feel calm, we must develop our military capacity, because the risks have not disappeared, Prime Minister Acad. Increasing military capacity will be one of the government's tasks. According to the Prime Minister, this should not happen piece by piece. Both the modernisation of the army and the development of personnel must go hand in hand. They should be seen not only in the context of Bulgaria's capacity, but also in terms of Bulgaria's relations with its European Union (EU) and NATO partners. At the same time, the development of applied-scientific activities in the military field, in which our country has traditions, should be strengthened, stressed Acad. Denkov.

He said that at least for the past few years now, the slowdown in the development of military capacity is not due to economic difficulties, because despite the various crises Bulgaria is developing relatively well. The problem is political uncertainty about how we want to develop within the two alliances.

"In recent years, Bulgaria has sent mixed signals to EU and NATO partners. This has sown tension and even division in society, which is a problem for national security. It is for this reason that we are still not taking full advantage, both as a military and political capacity, of the opportunities that participation in these two powerful alliances gives us," the Prime Minister noted.

He thanked the military attachés for their special role as military diplomats, intelligence officers, and parliamentarians around the world who gain credibility for Bulgaria in partner networks and on whose help the government relies to make the right decisions.
