PM Glavchev: "We support Ukraine in every possible way. We support the European position."

The fight against disinformation is on the attention of European leaders in the context of the upcoming European Parliament elections. It is important to take decisive action by the member states and all institutions to act in sync and coordination, caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev said after the European Council meeting on April 18.

In Brussels, conclusions were adopted expressing the determination of the Union and its member states to closely monitor and limit any risks arising from disinformation, including through artificial intelligence, as well as from foreign manipulation of information and interference in electoral processes.

"We are fighting to ensure that Bulgaria is not vulnerable to disinformation, in line with European conclusions," the caretaker Prime Minister added, quoted by the government press service.

Regarding Ukraine, caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev reaffirmed Bulgaria's strong support, stating:

"We support Ukraine in every possible way. We support the European position," he said.

In his words, potential sources of assistance could be the revenues from the frozen Russian assets, which are estimated at around 2 and a half to 3 billion euros.

Caretaker Prime Minister Glavchev also focused on the call of the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, to provide Kiev with anti-missile systems as soon as possible, the government press service said.

He also highlighted Bulgaria's support for the resumption of the EU dialogue with Turkey. The direction is to expand the dialogue with Turkey on the EU association, as well as the modernisation of the customs union, Glavchev added.

Glavchev also briefed his European counterparts on the developments in Bulgaria. The focus of the talks was the changes in the Constitution and the preparation for the upcoming elections on 9 June.
