President Radev on Revival Leaders' Day: Awakeners are the bearers of culture, morality and humane values of the society
The awakeners are the bearers of culture, morality and humane values of the society, President Rumen Radev said in his address on the occasion of Bulgaria's National Awakeners' Day at a ceremony in the Presidency on November 1.
"On one of the brightest Bulgarian holidays, it is an honour for me to meet representatives of our cultural and educational institutions, called to be the spiritual pillars of the nation. Awakening is a unique, entirely Bulgarian spiritual territory. A word that has gathered in itself the wisdom and spiritual strength of the Bulgarian people, the centuries-old quest for enlightenment, freedom and progress.
An awakener is not always a person of intellectual work and can be anyone who brings enlightenment to others with words and deeds and humbly serves his people, President Radev added.
Today's awakeners carry the spark of the ancestors and with their deeds and boldness they defend the Bulgarian identity and awaken the spirits, speak the truth boldly, have the strength to fight ignorance, arrogance and complacency, and follow their ideal of a free and modern Bulgaria, the Head of State added.
So today I want to thank all the people of art and spirituality, the teachers and enlighteners, the men and women of valorous example, their courage and dedication to the noble mission of awakening. Thank you for the honour of celebrating this day together. Happy holiday!"
The ceremony was attended by the Speaker of Bulgaria’s Parliament Raya Nazaryan, caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev, Patriarch Daniil, Sofia Mayor Vassil Terziev, representatives of state institutions and academia.
