"Bulgargaz” submitted to the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (EWRC) an application for approval of the natural gas price for January 2023, the company said on December 12. The price requested by the public supplier is BGN 204.53 per megawatt-hour (MWh) or EUR 104.57/MWh, calculated at the BNB exchange rate (excluding access, transmission, excise and VAT prices).

The Energy and Water Regulatory Commission approved a natural gas price for December of BGN 146.09/MWh, excluding access, transmission, excise and VAT prices. This means that the increase, if approved by the utilities regulator, will amount to 39.73%.

At the same time, the price proposed by Bulgargaz is more than 25% lower than the prices of gas hubs in Europe for delivery in January 2023, which are currently at an approximate rate of 139 euros/MWh, the company said.

The final proposal for the approval of the January 2023 gas price will be submitted to the regulator on 1 January, taking into account the quotations of the pricing components as at 31 December 2022.
