Energy prices were the biggest contributor to the rise in headline inflation in the euro area in April. There, the rise was 38% on an annual basis. However, there is a positive fact - although we are still talking about record levels, the jump in the prices of energy sources in April was smaller on an annual basis compared to this month earlier.

For March, fuel price inflation was up by 6% more, or by 44% compared to 12 months earlier.

However, the trend for food, alcohol and tobacco is negative. Inflation for March was 5% and 6.4% a month later. In services, prices also continue to jump. In March, inflation of this segment was 2.7% on an annual basis and a month later it jumped to 3.3%.

Against this backdrop, Bulgaria does not stand better. Inflation for April reached 14.4% on annual basis. In just a month, prices of basic goods and services in Bulgaria have also gone up.

Food and non-alcoholic beverages prices have risen significantly. In this segment, prices have risen by around 4% in just 30 days in this country, while in the euro area the rise over the past 12 months has been by around 6%. In April, Bulgarians paid by 3.4% more for transport services, compared to March. The cost of maintaining a home, including for energy, increased by 1.9% in the month.

The lowest annual inflation rates for April were registered in Finland (5.6%), France (5.4%), and Malta (4.8%).
