Security measures will be introduced in central Sofia for the enthronement of the newly elected Bulgarian Patriarch

On Sunday, June 30, the National Service for Protection introduces security measures in the centre of Sofia because of the solemn events related to the Patriarchal Electoral Assembly and the enthronement of the newly elected Bulgarian Patriarch.

The enthronement with a lity procession from the Synodal Palace to the Patriarchal Cathedral "St. Alexander Nevsky" will take place at 15.00. At 18.00, the newly elected and newly enthroned Bulgarian Patriarch will be paid state honours.with a military ceremony on the St Alexander Nevsky square in Sofia.

At 12.00, a security zone will be set up in the area between "Vasil Levski" blvd., "Tsar Osvoboditel" blvd., "Rakovski" street and "Moskovska" street.

Access to the security zone will be provided to members of the public after the arrival of the delegates and dignitaries invited for the enthronement and after passing a security check.

The Patriarchal Cathedral "St. Alexander Nevsky" will not be accessible to members of the public. Those wishing to observe the solemn events may do so at designated positions at the north and south entrances of the “St. Alexander Nevski" cathedral, where checkpoints will also be organised.

Members of the public and guests will be screened with metal detectors for the presence of firearms and cold weapons, sharp objects, explosives and flammable substances, sources of ionizing radiation, fireworks and other pyrotechnics. People carrying bulky luggage will not be admitted. Access by persons in a visibly inappropriate condition will also be restricted.

For the period from 13.00 to 22.00, a ban on the flight of unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) is introduced in an area with a radius of 1000 m and "St. Alexander Nevski" square as centre.

The name of the new Patriarch of Bulgaria will be announced on Sunday, June 30, at 14:30. This event marks the election and enthronement of the successor to the late Patriarch Neophyte.

The elected Patriarch will be enthroned in the presence of the Metropolitans at St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral.

The new Patriarch will be elected from among Metropolitans Grigory of Vratsa, Daniil of Vidin, and Gavriil of Lovchan.
