Sofia Airport introduces self-scanning system for boarding passes during security check
As of March 6, Terminal 2 of Sofia Airport introduced electronic self-scanning counters for airport departures.
This is expected to improve passenger service and reduce queuing times as passengers will be able to check their boarding passes themselves. The electronic counters at Sofia Airport are the first such counters to be implemented at a Bulgarian airport. This also improves airport security.
"Six smart counters have been installed and one of them is designed for people with limited mobility. The capacity is about 12 passengers per counter per minute. They provide ease of use and the combined scanners recognise both barcodes and QR codes. The software reads regular boarding passes, which can be electronic or paper. More than 120 airports around the world already operate a similar smart system. By the end of the year, a similar system will be installed for baggage check-in at Sofia Airport," explained Jesús Caballero, CEO of Sofia Airport.
